Our founder, James Dean, has spent over 17 years keeping books for small South African businesses, with a long history in restaurants and property management. Each business we take on is an individual, and you receive individual attention.

Six services, and the judgement to know which ones you actually need
We aim to support your growth and success by refining your financial processes. Most start-ups need monthly bookkeeping and nothing else. If payroll, VAT or a catch-up job comes with it, we will say so in the quote rather than after the fact.
Monthly Bookkeeping
There is more in a month than most people expect: slips and invoices captured, the bank and card accounts reconciled line by line, debtors and creditors brought up to date, and a management pack with your profit and loss, balance sheet and a short note on what changed. The start-up package starts at R495 and covers the first three hours, which for most start-ups is the whole month. Compare it to what other bookkeepers quote you.
Business Registrations
CIPC name reservation and company registration, share certificates, and your SARS income tax number. Done once, done properly, so the annual returns are never a problem later.
Payroll
Monthly payslips, EMP201 and EMP501 submissions, UIF and leave records. Priced on headcount, quoted before we start.
Tax
VAT, provisional tax and annual returns prepared and reconciled, ready for submission to SARS. Filing itself is done by a registered tax practitioner, either yours or one we introduce you to, so the return that goes in has been through both of us.
Data Capturing
For businesses that keep their own books but need the volume processed. Invoices, slips and statements captured into your system, accurately and on time.
Consulting
Pricing, cash flow, structure and system choice. An hour with someone who has read seventeen years of small business books is usually cheaper than a year of guessing.

Businesses that need more than 3 hours a month move off the start-up price. We will tell you that on the first call, not on the third invoice.

Our founder, James Dean, has over 17 years of experience in bookkeeping and financial management, much of it in restaurants and property management. He started Spencer Bizwise because small businesses were being charged agency prices for work that one experienced person could do better.
He is a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor and works comfortably across Sage, Xero, Zoho, QuickBooks and Odoo. Year-end financial statements are reviewed and signed off by a chartered accountant, so you get the reassurance of a firm with the attention of a single bookkeeper.
The practice runs from the Upper Highway area of Durban and serves clients across South Africa, entirely online.
